Check the Category C route before you choose a package

Match the licence to the vehicle

Category C covers vehicles over 3,500kg maximum authorised mass with a trailer up to 750kg maximum authorised mass. If the work requires a heavier trailer, compare the Category C to C+E upgrade or direct car-to-C+E route, depending on your starting entitlement, instead of assuming Category C is the right entitlement.

Get the correct provisional entitlement

For a first application, GOV.UK says to complete a D2 application and D4 medical report, then send them with your photocard licence to DVLA. Check the category you need before submitting the forms.

Understand the practical-test order

GOV.UK requires the Part 1 theory test before booking Part 3a off-road exercises; you must then pass Part 3a before taking Part 3b on-road driving. Use the course-price table above to check the practical tests and items included in the package you are considering.

Decide whether you need the full Driver CPC

If driving an HGV will be the main part of your job, GOV.UK says you need the full Driver CPC, unless an exemption applies. Part 2 case studies can be booked once you have provisional entitlement, and Part 4 practical demonstration follows Part 2; compare the relevant Driver CPC information or contact GS Driver Training if you need help separating initial qualification from periodic training.

Optional Pass Protection

Add Pass Protection for £550.00 including VAT before the original course starts. Two additional Module 3a and/or Module 3b attempts in total; each includes up to two hours of training plus the test.

Potential saving up to £350 compared with two £450 Module 3b retests purchased separately. Actual saving depends on the attempts used; no pass or saving is guaranteed.

What the With CPC package includes

For Category C and C1, the With CPC price includes the selected driving course and listed practical test, a D4 medical appointment, multiple-choice theory and hazard-perception test fees, online revision, and Initial Driver CPC Module 2 case-studies and Module 4 practical-demonstration test fees. You still need to apply for the appropriate DVLA provisional entitlement and pass the required tests; the package does not itself grant a licence or Driver CPC qualification.
