HGV Driving Experience – Surrey

What can you expect on a GS Driver Training HGV Experience day? A warm welcome, clear safety brief, and the thrill of climbing into a full-size DAF on private ground at Dunsfold Aerodrome, home of Top Gear. After sign-in, your instructor will run through controls, seating, mirrors, and safe systems of work. You’ll learn how the vehicle steers, stops, and uses its mirrors differently from a car, then set off for a smooth first lap to settle the nerves.

Momentum builds quickly. You’ll practice precise low-speed control, observation routines, and progressive braking. Depending on your session, you may attempt a guided reverse into a bay and experience the feel of an articulated unit reacting to steering inputs. Your instructor will coach calmly from the passenger seat, offering bite-size tips you can act on immediately.

Expect plenty of cab time. Most first-timers are surprised by the commanding view and how stable a modern 44-tonner feels when driven correctly. You’ll learn why mirror discipline matters, how to plan far ahead, and how gentle inputs make heavy vehicles glide. There’s time for photos and questions, and we keep the vibe friendly, professional, and pressure-free.
