How to Check Your CPC Hours – The Complete 2026 Guide for HGV, LGV & PCV Drivers

This is a guide on how to check your CPC hours. If you drive professionally, keeping track of your Driver CPC hours is essential. Whether you’re an HGV, LGV, PCV or minibus driver, you must complete 35 hours of periodic CPC training every 5 years to stay legal.

But many drivers are unsure where to check their hours, how many they’ve done, or when they expire.
This guide from GS Driver Training explains everything clearly — step by step.

Why You Must Check Your CPC Hours Regularly

Your CPC card is your professional licence to drive.

If your 35 hours run out:

  • You cannot legally work as a professional driver
  • You risk fines for you and your employer
  • You could lose work or fail compliance checks

Most drivers don’t realise their CPC expiry date is approaching until it’s too late — so checking your hours now is the best way to stay ahead.

How to Check Your CPC Hours Online (Official Gov.uk Portal)

The UK Government provides a free, secure online service where drivers can view:

  • How many CPC hours you’ve completed
  • Which courses you attended
  • Your training provider
  • Your total hours for the 5-year cycle
  • Your CPC expiry date

Here’s how to check your CPC hours:

  1. Go to the official GOV.UK service:
Search: “Check Driver CPC periodic training hours” on Google
  2. Click Start Now.
  3. Enter:
    • Your driving licence number
    • Your postcode (matching your licence)
  4. You’ll see a full breakdown of:
    • Completed CPC hours
    • Remaining hours needed
    • Your training record
    • The expiry date of your Driver Qualification Card (DQC)

That’s it — simple, free, and instant.

When Do My CPC Hours Reset?

Every driver has a personal 5-year cycle, starting from the date you completed your initial CPC or the last time you renewed.

For example:

  • If your CPC expires 09/09/2025,
  • Your training window covers 09/09/2020 – 09/09/2025

You must complete 35 hours within each cycle.

How Many CPC Hours Do I Need?

The rules are straightforward:

  • Total required: 35 hours every 5 years
  • Minimum session length: 7 hours per course
  • You can spread them out or complete them in a block

At GS Driver Training, many drivers choose:

One full course per year → Easier to manage

or

A 5-day intensive block → Fast and convenient

We offer all options.

Common Problems Drivers Have With CPC Hours

❌ “My hours aren’t showing on GOV.UK.”

This usually means the training company has not uploaded them correctly.
If this happens, ask them to resubmit.

❌ “I didn’t realise my CPC expired!”

A very common one.
Avoid this by checking your hours every 6–12 months.

❌ “I did the same course twice — one didn’t count.”

Duplicate CPC sessions in the same 5-year cycle will not be accepted.

❌ “I changed address and can’t log in.”

Your postcode must match your licence. Update it with DVLA first.
